It's not that simple. The buildings at this intersection of London's two busiest shopping streets were finished by Henry Tanner in or after 1913, which makes him the copycat, not Selfridge. This particular corner, at the northeast, was bombed in the war; the facade was rebuilt as it had been. Would it surprise you to learn that the facing corner is occupied by Benneton or that the one on the way to Selfridge's is occupied by H&M? Not likely; we've learned to expect the same-old, same-old.
