![]() Here it is a bit closer. The railroad from Kuala Lumpur to the port at Klang opened in 1886 and by 1909 was part of a system stretching from Penang to Singapore (picky-picky; technically, the track ran from Butterworth to Johor Strait). A telegraph line to the outside world, via Malacca, also opened in 1886. The railway offices here opened in 1905 but were soon moved to a larger building. Behind what is now the excellent national textile museum is the Dayabumi Complex, government offices whose design leaves no doubt as to the primacy of Islam in Malaysia today.
