Travel to Philippines: Manila: Intramuros: Photo 5 In front of the gate is a worn statue of Isabella.  She became queen in 1833 but was deposed in 1868.  She spent the next 36 years, until her death in 1904, in France.  Accordingly, her statue was put in storage in 1869, though in 1896 it was taken out and put on display about a mile to the south, in front of the Malate cathedral church.  The statue was brought here in 1975.
