Notes on the Geography of Peninsular India: Mumbai / Bombay: The VT and Taj Mahal Hotel: Photo 18

world pictures Peninsular India: Mumbai / Bombay: The VT and Taj Mahal Hotel

Across the street is the Taj Mahal Hotel, opened in 1903. For many years it was the crown jewel of the international Taj Hotels chain, a point unlikely to be lost on any guest who's paid a room bill. The floor plan is a U, with a swimming pool in the courtyard on the back side. Originally, the entrance was in that courtyard; now it's on the water side but just north of the view here, where the hotel includes a tower built about 1980. (This is the original building, not the copy built after the terrorist attack of 2008.)
