Travel to Uzbekistan: Bukhara: Bolo Hauz Mosque
Opposite the entrance to the Ark there's a pool, and next to the pool is a mosque. The mosque is called simply the Bolo Hauz or "near the pool" mosque. It was built in 1712, but its highlight is the iwan added by Kurban Yuldashev in 1915-17.
You'll have to crane a bit to see past the maintenance scaffolding.
The columns have the classic muqarna capital.
At last you can get a sense of the coloring that's on its way.
The doors, too, are elaborately ornamented.
The interior comes as a disappointment.
