The Natha temple from the other side of the wall. The Sinhalese fondness for tiled roofs extends, in this case, to setting a tiled cap on top of an anteroom dome, no longer visible. It's an esthetic preference, though defensible on the purely functional grounds that such roofs resist rain damage better than plastered domes, with their inevitable cracks.
