The Egyptian museum, one of the best known and certainly most visited buildings of the district. It opened in 1902, long after Ismail had been shunted from power in 1879. The architect was Marcel Dourgnon, and the contractor was, as was often the case in Cairo in these years, an Italian, Giuseppe Garozzo.
