Built in 1898, the warehouse has the longest Victorian facade in England, but it wasn't just big: it was extraordinarily innovative, with a lower-level tunnel through which canal boats could come and go. Above, railroad tracks ran on sidings where goods could be transferred to trucks or canal boats. Hydraulic elevators moved goods between floors. Call it Pioneer Intermodal.
