Notes on the Geography of Peru: Ollantaytambo: Photo 3
Either to conserve arable land or to organize Nature, the Inca confined miles of the Urubamba between stone walls, now mostly lost. Instead, the river is now bordered by a highway and this narrow-gauge railway ferrying visitors north to Machu Picchu. The track deadends just short of there, but you don't want a lecture on the fragmentary character of the Peruvian rail network. Pity, really.
