Notes on the Geography of Laos: Luang Prabang Palace GroundsLuang Prabang is the former capital of Laos. It fronts the Mekong, and so does the old Royal Palace, which is really not so old. Built between 1904 and 1909, it's now a museum, with the palace furnishings approximately intact.
