Then we switched to NH 13, heavily travelled (still with those Maruti vans) but only two lanes. We left it at Hospet and have come a few miles west to the Tungabhadra Dam. It's more than 30 years since we last saw it. Back then, you could walk across the dam. No longer. More security consciousness. Nobody in 1980 thought that anybody would be crazy enough to try blowing up a dam.
