The ticket hall is not the work of cringing colonials. The Evening Star wrote in 1906 that "the heterogeneity of its structure has been the subject of some adverse criticism..." but "the whole atmosphere of the place is one of costliness." This extended to the plumbing: "The lavatory and sanitary arrangements are luxurious."
