Notes on the Geography of Austria : StilluppTwo dams block branches of the Ziller. Water from each runs through a powerhouse and then down to a third reservoir. From there, water can be released to a third powerhouse, but at periods of low demand purchased power is used to pump water back to the two upstream reservoirs. Come dinnertime, the water turns around and runs downhill through the turbines.
